About sustainable silk

Bombyx mori (silk moths)

Don't worry, these cute moths were not harmed in the production of your product...
In conventional large-scale silk production, silkworms in their chrysalis state are boiled to death in order to harvest their silk cocoon. But every silk product offered by Haarlem House is produced using so-called "Peace Silk," whereby the silkworm is allowed to complete its metamorphosis into a butterfly before harvesting the leftover cocoon. This type of sustainable silk production takes much longer and is more expensive, but we think it's worth it.
