Traditional mud cloth (bògòlanfini) is created by hand dyeing cotton cloth with fermented mud and allowing it to dry in the sun. Once the cloth is washed out revealing the vibrant patterns, the process is repeated until the cloth becomes dense with pigment, often over the course of several weeks.
With our indigo cushions, the mud is swapped out for the leaves of the indigo plant, which have been mashed into a pulp and fermented. The cloth is then tie dyed to create the distinctive indigo pattern. In Mali, where mud cloth has been made since the 12th century, indigo mud cloth is a symbol of wealth and prosperity, and is greatly sought-after.
Our cushions are finished with piping and zip-enclosures, making them a breeze to stuff. CUSHIONS ARE SHIPPED UN-STUFFED.
NOTE: Every pattern and every cushion is a unique work of art. Rectangle cushions may vary by an inch in either direction.
